A reference guide to palmistry. Explore the major lines, mounts, and hand shapes used in traditional palm reading.

Heart Line

Location: Runs horizontally across the upper palm, below the fingers.
Represents: Love, emotions, and relationships.
Long & curved: You express emotions freely and are warm-hearted.
Short & straight: You are more reserved and prefer logic over emotion.
Wavy: Many relationships and diverse emotional experiences.
Broken: Emotional trauma or significant life changes in relationships.

Head Line

Location: Runs horizontally across the middle of the palm.
Represents: Intellect, learning style, and communication.
Long: You think things through carefully and consider every angle.
Short: You prefer physical achievements over intellectual ones.
Curved: Creative and spontaneous thinker.
Straight: Practical, structured, and detail-oriented.

Life Line

Location: Curves from between thumb and index finger down toward the wrist.
Represents: Vitality, health, and major life changes (not length of life!).
Long & deep: Strong vitality and resilience.
Short & shallow: You may be easily influenced by others.
Curved: Abundant energy and enthusiasm.
Close to thumb: You tire easily and may need more rest.

Fate Line (Line of Destiny)

Location: Runs vertically from the base of the palm toward the middle finger.
Represents: Career, life path, and external influences.
Deep & clear: Strongly controlled by fate or destiny.
Faint or absent: You forge your own path in life.
Broken: Many career changes or shifts in direction.
Note: Not everyone has a fate line, which is perfectly normal.

Sun Line (Line of Apollo)

Location: Parallel to the fate line, toward the ring finger.
Represents: Success, fame, creativity, and public image.
Present & clear: Talent for the arts, strong public presence.
Absent: Success may come through hard work rather than fame.

Mount of Jupiter (below index finger)

Leadership, ambition, confidence, and authority. A well-developed mount indicates natural leadership ability and a desire for achievement.

Mount of Saturn (below middle finger)

Wisdom, responsibility, and introspection. A pronounced mount suggests a serious, studious nature with a talent for research and deep thinking.

Mount of Apollo (below ring finger)

Creativity, beauty, and happiness. A well-developed mount indicates artistic talent, charisma, and a sunny disposition.

Mount of Mercury (below little finger)

Communication, wit, and business acumen. A strong mount suggests eloquence, quick thinking, and skill in commerce or science.

Mount of Venus (base of thumb)

Love, sensuality, vitality, and passion. The most prominent mount in most hands. A fleshy mount indicates warmth, generosity, and a love of pleasure.

Mount of Luna (opposite thumb, lower palm)

Imagination, intuition, and the subconscious. A developed mount indicates a rich inner world, vivid dreams, and creative or psychic ability.

Earth Hand

Shape: Square palm, short fingers.
Element: Earth.
Traits: Practical, reliable, grounded. Values stability and hard work. Common among tradespeople and those who work with their hands.

Air Hand

Shape: Square or rectangular palm, long fingers.
Element: Air.
Traits: Intellectual, curious, communicative. Loves ideas, conversation, and mental stimulation. Prone to overthinking.

Water Hand

Shape: Long oval palm, long flexible fingers.
Element: Water.
Traits: Sensitive, intuitive, emotional. Highly empathetic and creative. Can be vulnerable to stress and external energies.

Fire Hand

Shape: Long palm, short fingers.
Element: Fire.
Traits: Energetic, bold, confident. Natural risk-takers who act on instinct. Charismatic leaders who inspire action.

Thumb

Represents: Willpower and logic.
Large thumb: Strong will and determination.
Flexible: Adaptable and open-minded.
Stiff: Stubborn but reliable.

Index Finger (Jupiter)

Represents: Ambition and self-confidence.
Long: Natural leader, confident.
Short: Avoids confrontation, prefers to follow.

Middle Finger (Saturn)

Represents: Responsibility and balance.
Long: Rule-follower, serious, disciplined.
Short: Free-spirited, dislikes restrictions.

Ring Finger (Apollo)

Represents: Creativity and emotional expression.
Long: Artistic, risk-taking, charming.
Short: Shy, prefers working behind the scenes.

Little Finger (Mercury)

Represents: Communication and relationships.
Long: Eloquent, persuasive, outgoing.
Short: Difficulty expressing feelings, shy in groups.

Left Hand or Right Hand?

In traditional palmistry, the two hands tell different stories:
Dominant hand (usually the right): Your present and future. It shows what you have made of your life through choices, actions, and effort. This is the hand most readers focus on, which is why the diagram above shows a right hand.
Non-dominant hand (usually the left): Your potential. It reflects inherited traits, natural talents, and the possibilities you were born with.
A classic saying sums it up: "The left hand is what the gods give you, the right hand is what you do with it." Since about 90% of people are right-handed, the right hand is the one most commonly read. If you are left-handed, simply swap the roles.

Palmistry, or chiromancy, is an ancient practice of interpreting the lines, shapes, and features of the hand. While there is no scientific evidence supporting palmistry, it remains a popular form of self-reflection and entertainment across many cultures. This guide is for fun and educational purposes only.
